Rivera: Here’s the problem. I believe that proponents of immigration like Michelle, Rush Limbaugh, Tancredo of Colorado, Lou Dobbs at CNN. Those people would not agree to any immigration reform that allows the people who are here to remain.
She gets on her high horse, but then the laugh line comes when she says:
Malkin: Geraldo has continued to play the race card.. “
I don't like Geraldo, but seriously fuck Michelle Malkin. She's a racist idiot who thinks it's fine to marginalize people because she belongs to an ethnic group herself.
That aside, I'm increasingly finding it hard to see where a lot of these anti-immigration people are coming from. I was walking back from the beer store yesterday afternoon with a fresh sixer of Fat Tire, following a middle-aged Mexican woman and her two kids. They were pushing each other around, laughing at each other, and calling each other names while the mother watched and laughed. As we walked, we passed a father and his kids playing soccer in an alleyway, all yelling in Spanish and having a total blast. Half a block further, the mother and her kids stopped to talk to a couple who were stationed at one of many produce trucks that parades up and down the neighborhood, selling fresh produce and tons of other things.
As I passed and bade them all a buenas tardes, I kept thinking about some comments I had read earlier on a popular right-wing site about "the filthy Mexicans who breed like cockroaches" and thought 'Jesus fucking Christ. Why is there so much palpable hatred for people who are trying to make a better life for themselves, and rightfully bust their asses doing so?'
It's funny, because I have heard tons of comments about lazy Mexicans/Hispanics, yet have never seen any evidence of this claim. In fact, all of the Hispanics I've ever known were hardworking motherfuckers and motherfuckerettes who could run circles around your average white guy. People bitch about "Well, if they're going to live here, they need to learn the language." A lot of them genuinely try hard, and you know what? Why not meet them halfway and learn a little Spanish in the process? It wouldn't fucking kill you, and it definitely helps them in the long run. That's how I learned Spanish to begin with. I worked with no less than five Hispanic guys(one Venezuelan, two Hondurans, one Oaxaqueno, one Chihuahueno), all of whom would bitch at me to teach them more English as they taught me Spanish. We'd trade phrases, curse words, etc...I learned about the different regional dialects, and we all had a ball.
For all the bitching about lazy Hispanics, I submit that your average American is intellectually lazy and ethnocentric when it comes down to immigration issues. God forbid that they actually put forth some effort and try to learn something about another culture in the process.
However, their racial comments still don't touch on the fact that our immigration and naturalization system is in serious need of reform, and their refusal to condemn and punish businesses who willfully hire illegal immigrants to cut costs is absolutely goddamn retarded. Sure, I don't appreciate the fact that a lot of Hispanics and immigrants in general circumvent the system, but I can certainly see why, and regardless of that concept, I still can't find it within myself to hate them like so many people like Malkin seem to.
