Fine Dining? For Whom, Don Ho?
So the girlfriend and I went to Solvang/Santa Barbara for the day just to get the fuck out of L.A. Initially, we were just going to do Solvang and hit SB on a later date, but the more sensible of the two of us (read: she) said "You know what? Let's just go, and if it's too much we'll come back."
So we did it, and it was pretty awesome. After a lot of walking around, a lot of pictures, lot of conversation, etc., we decided to tuck into a meal and a few drinks while waiting for the sunset to hit. So we ambled back to Stearns Wharf and headed for the first restaurant to hit our field of vision. We walk in, and they offer us menus and an option to dine downstairs or upstairs.
Us: "What's the difference?"
Them: "Well, upstairs is more of a bar atmosphere, peanut shells on the floor, that kind of thing. We're more of a fine dining establishment."
I took a look around at the multiple staff members who were wearing...wait for it....tropical print button-up shirts. My brain immediately blurted "You HAVE to be fucking shitting me." Thankfully, my mouth interfered and said, "We'll take a look at the menus for each, thanks."
After poring over the "fine dining" Hawaii 5-0 menu, which could be described as "Sauteed Lobster Genitalia On A Bed Of Arugula - $40", we decided to be plebeians and opt for the bar section of the building.
And it was totally worth it. Selah.
