Raging Texan

I'm going to step aside from my outrage over the fact that people are completely ignoring the torture and habeas corpus rulings that occurred a week ago and talk about the one thing that has everyone buzzing.

It's funny how the Foley scandal has managed to drag out the idiots who are willing to defend an old fart who preys on teenage boys. Here's a little bit of insight, guys and gals - If your endless adoration for your party line causes you to willfully take up for someone who abused their power to have sex with boys, maybe it's time to take a step back and look at your life.

That being said, sometimes I wonder what parallel universe Matt Drudge lives in so that I can nuke it. First, he dragged out the "IT'S THE PAGES' FAULT!"

Which makes sense, if you're a denizen of Neo-Conservative Bizarro World. Those of us who don't find tying our shoes a mentally burdensome task, however, can't make heads or tails of that line of (il)logic. We immediately counter: "So, it's their fault because they were there, and young? Are you the kind of asshole that blames women for getting raped because they were dressed a certain way? I'm just trying to see what would draw you to that conclusion."

The latest revelation is "Ha ha! Stupid libtards! The Foley IM/e-mail scandal was all a prank! Ha ha! Don't you guys look stupid now?!?!?"

At which point we collectively sigh, mutter "find a mirror, you dolt" to ourselves, and then simply ask, "If it was a prank, why did Foley resign? Why is there so much evidence to the contrary? Did they prank the FBI, CREW, the Congressional Page Board, and ABC News? If so, goddamn I'm joining your side, because you guys are good!"

Seriously. If it was just a big joke, why did Foley resign? If you were a politician and someone accused you of something that you KNEW WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT WAS COMPLETELY FABRICATED, would you just up and say, "Whoop, fuck it, I'm outta here!"

I don't think so. You'd (hopefully) stand your ground and fight to disprove the information that is so patently false.

That's why, in this case, his resignation can be easily interpreted as an admission of guilt. And until someone besides Matt Drudge proves it, I'm sticking to my side of the truth.

Unfortunately for Drudge, I have trouble believing a "WORLD EXCLUSIVE SCOOP" from someone who has about as much journalistic integrity as the guy who sleeps in the dumpster outside the neighborhood 7-11.

*Update - 6:19 PM: ABC News pretty much laid the smack down on this one, but it doesn't change my diatribe any. :P *
