The Inconsequential News-Hag Strikes Again

In 2001, an anonymous White House source leaked top-secret NSA intelligence to reporter Judith Miller that Al Qaida was planning a major attack on the United States. But the story never made it into the paper.

Love Alternet, love their articles, but I can't help but shake the idea that this is just a fairly obvious ploy for the worthless administration-shilling excuse of a journalist known as Judith Miller to get another fifteen minutes worth of fame.

Besides, I'm sure the article didn't hit the headlines because there were no specifics as to exactly who, when, where, why, and how. As easy as it is to look back post-9/11 and say "Well, there's your proof", this still doesn't add up to very much tangible evidence. You could theoretically scoop the same story today (although you could insert a number of organizations in place of Al-Qaida) and make it in the paper, but that's more of a testament to the culture of fear perpetrated by Bush and the gang.

But as I said before, there's not much of a lead. It's sort of like having someone come up to you and say "Okay, twelve people are going to die in Minnesota." and then just shrugging when you start asking for details. It's understandable as to why this story didn't make it to the front page.

Note that none of this is any excuse as to why nothing was done in the case of ABLE DANGER and the USS Cole (mentioned in the beginning of the article), because there's no excuse for sloppy responses to intel.
